On a Sunday in May I set out from my home to an adventure into the unknown.
A lift to the station to get the train I am glad there isn’t any rain.
My first stop is Marylebone, I check my phone to see if the bus is on time.
I wheel my walker and rucksacks to bus stop number two.
here it is no time for the loo!
The bus to Victoria travels slow, as I am old, I have a pass to show.
It is Sunday so there are seats to spare, I sit and enjoy the ride,
I feel a sense of pride that I can make this journey on my own so
many miles from home.
At Victoria I rush to gate number ten. Crystal Palace is next train on my list, The Station staff are so very kind and go out of their way to leave no one behind.
At Crystal Palace I find the lift to take me up to find a surprise I am being met by Anna and Jupiter, a lovely sight for my tired eyes.
We walk up the hill to our journey’s end where I will stay the night Crystal Palace tower is always a wondrous sight.
Glad to be with my family, Peter, Anna and Jupiter, we chat and eat and play til my tired bones need to sleep it has been a really long day.
Next day Monday, we set off in a hire car. The tent, food and essentials are stowed, we are ready to hit the road Welsummer here we come.
We stop at a Sainsbury’s on the way to get all the food we needed for our stay.
We arrive at last and to my delight I find I am staying in a lovely cabin tonight.
Peter, Anna and Jupiter set up their tent, Jupiter rushed around all that energy to vent.
To have everything you needed for your stay a walk was needed as the provisions for camp were a bit of a distance away. Well for me with my little legs it was far.
A camping gas stove was used for cooking and boiling for tea. I had coffee but that’s just me.
Peter and Anna lit a fire pit outside for cooking food. It was cozy sitting and watching the flames with help of the many baskets of wood.
Tuesday, the next day it was raining but we were having fun so there was no complaining of we set for Whitstable town, the pebble beach was also covered in oyster shells they were from the nearby restaurant and were caught by the boats at sea with their two masted sails.
We had some lunch at a lovely cafe whose profits were used to support people with a mental health condition. It was beautifully decorated and in a great position in the high street.
Wednesday we relaxed and Peter whittled wood and Anna made a bow for Jupiter to pretend and I made him a long stick with a J on the end.
We chatted to campers and the owners of the camp, Jupiter had fun with a little white dog which was nice to see as he usually would see a big dog and run.
Thursday arrived all too soon, it was raining and the tent was wet!
Peter dried it and packed it away everyone helped load everything back into the car ready for the journey home to Crystal Palace.
Friday morning I set off for home, a journey in reverse with my memories of the fun I had with Jupiter’s Mum and Dad, my lovely family Peter and Anna and Jupiter.
