The In Between
The in between of Christmas and New Year,
Tidying the house, recycling the boxes
And recyclable Christmas paper.
The shops are open, ready for folk
To restock for the next celebration.
A quieter affair is New Year’s Day,
But it is a beginning—
A new page in the diary,
Awaiting the first words.
Dreams and expectations are ahead,
Leaving 2024 behind,
But remembering what has passed:
Good times and heartache for the loss.
But moving forward—we have no choice.
The decorations come down for another year.
Some can’t wait for a tidy space,
But others simply cannot face
To pack them away,
Leaving the task for another day.
So, Happy New Year!
Here’s to 2025,
Keeping hope and love alive.
